Understanding Asthma: Types, Origin and Comprehensive Control.

Asthma is a long-term inflatable illness that effects millions of people globally; thus, it is vital to characterize the distinct types of asthma, etiology, and the therapeutic approaches. In this post, let our yoga acharya take you deeper into the types of asthma, how it occurs, and how practices from Yoga and Ayurveda and lifestyle changes can help you manage it.

Types of Asthma

It is interesting to note that asthma comes in various types and all are caused by different stimuli. Here are some common types:

Allergic Asthma: This is caused by substances like pollen, Pet dander, mold, specific foods, dust mite, tobacco smoke, and chemical vapor.

Non-Allergic Asthma: Induced by non-allergenic stimuli comprising cold air, humidity, stress, exercise, pollution, and respiratory irritants.

Exercise-Induced Asthma: Race is a sign of this variant; one may experience coughing or wheezing during physical activities.

Nightmare Asthma: This type can occur at night because sleep-wake cycles will complicate matters through wheezing, coughing, and sometimes breathing.

Occupational Asthma: Caused by exposure to allergens at the workplace that result in conditions such as; nasal discharge, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and coughing.

Cough Variant Asthma: This is a chiefly characterized by a harsh, prolonged paroxysm of coughing with little or mild wheezing to boot.

Thunderstorm Asthma: Period when according to the pollen count it rains heavily there is a lot of pollen, it brings on the asthma attack.

Classification by Severity: Asthma can also be grouped as intermittent, mild persistent, moderate persistent, and severe persistent.

Causes of Asthma

It is very important to differentiate the causes of asthma to grasp its nature adequately. Key factors include:

  • Environment: This is because pollutants from nearby industries or those people living close to busy roads can affect their breathing make them develop asthma.
  • Genetics: In particular, people who have been born into a family where other members have asthma are at a higher risk of getting the disease.
  • Stress: Asthma symptoms and the ability of the human body to breathe in general is vulnerable to high stress levels.
  • Allergies: Influences from various origins including pollens, specific foods, aggressive soaps, and pet skin scales are familiar inducers.

Managing Asthma through Yoga

Asthma can be well controlled by using radio starting medication and having strict yoga schedule. Below are some recommended practices:

Cleansing Practices (Shatkarmas)

1) Jal Neti: Daily
2) Sutra Neti: Twice a week
3) Kunjal Kriya: Once a week
4) Laghu Shankh Prakshalana: Once a month
5) Kapalbhati: Vatkram, Vyutkram

Asanas (Postures)

  • Tadasana
  • Tiryak Tadasana
  • Katichakrasana
  • Ardh Chakrasana
  • Bhujangasana
  • Ardh Ustrasana
  • Ustrasana
  • Dhanurasana
  • Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)

Pranayamas (Breathing Techniques)

  • Bhastrika: 3-5 rounds
  • Nadi Shodhana: 10 rounds, twice daily
  • Surya Bhedan: 10 rounds in the morning
  • Ujjayi: 2-3 times for 3-5 minutes daily
  • Bhramari: In the morning and before bedtime

Mudras (Hand Gestures)

  • Brahm Mudra: During pranayama
  • Prana Mudra: Anytime during the day for 15-45 minutes per round

Relaxation Techniques

  • Shavasana
  • Yog Nidra
  • Ajapa Japa

A novel approach to control asthma: The way of Ayurveda

Various types of asthma are reported by Ayurveda and the basic cause of the disease results from an imbalance of Vata and Kapha doshas. Here are some Ayurvedic recommendations to restore balance:

  • Body Massage: For the massage it is recommendable to use oils that are associated with ones dosha compounds.
  • Balanced Diet: Eliminate foods that are Vata and Kapha aggravating.
  • Hawan: People should always open havans to clear body odors plus eliminate allergic agents in the indoors.
  • Fruit Consumption: Fruits should be taken sparingly and preferably not in the morning and also the second part of the day to avoid formation of Kapha-Dosha and Vata-Dosha.
  • Herbal Remedies: Consume Shitopaladi or Trikatu powder with honey after meals to reduce kapha and congestion.
  • Hydration: Consume water which is slightly warmed up in order to provide relief against congestion and to regulate the vitiated Vata and Kapha dosha.

Conclusion

Asthma therefore is a chronic condition, but one that is not impossible to manage or even cure completely. Yoga, Ayurveda and correct food or medical treatment – a systematic living pattern lets the human being or a person lead a healthy life or at least enhances the quality of life.
